Ensuring Reliable Facility Inspection with JWM Guard Tour System

Sugarcane Farm

Project Background

The customer is a sugar mill and agroindustrial company located in Marcovia, Choluteca, Honduras. Founded in 1992, the company specializes in sugarcane cultivation and the production of sugar, molasses, alcohol, and electricity through cogeneration.

With extensive irrigated farmland and large-scale agricultural operations, the customer relies on irrigation systems and combustion engines to support sugarcane cultivation. Ensuring that field staff regularly visit designated irrigation points and operate the equipment according to schedule is essential for maintaining efficient irrigation and stable agricultural production.

Customer Requirements

The project required a patrol and inspection solution capable of:

  1. Setting designated inspection points throughout the irrigated farms.
  2. Verifying that staff physically arrive at the assigned locations.
  3. Recording the identity of the staff member through fingerprint verification.
  4. Recording the inspection location through GPS positioning.
  5. Uploading inspection records to the software in real time via 4G communication.
  6. Recording equipment faults at irrigation combustion engines.
  7. Allowing staff to select and record different fault types at the corresponding equipment.
  8. Providing centralized reports for management to review inspection activities and equipment faults.

Challenges

The customer was implementing an irrigation management project across its irrigated farms and needed a reliable way to verify that field staff had actually reached designated locations and performed the required tasks.

Solution

To meet these requirements, JWM provided the WM-5000ZG GPS Guard Tour System, combining real-time communication, fingerprint verification, GPS positioning, and event recording.

1. Real-Time Inspection Data Transmission via 4G

The WM-5000ZG uses 4G communication to transmit patrol and inspection data to the software in real time. When a staff member arrives at an irrigation point and completes the inspection, the record can be uploaded to the management platform immediately. Managers can therefore monitor inspection activities remotely without waiting for the device to return to the office.

2. Fingerprint Verification

The WM-5000ZG supports fingerprint verification, allowing the system to confirm the identity of the staff member performing the inspection. This helps prevent unauthorized personnel from completing inspections on behalf of assigned staff and improves accountability.

3. GPS Positioning

Because the irrigation points are distributed across large agricultural areas, GPS positioning provides an additional layer of location verification.
The system can record the staff member’s location during the inspection, helping managers verify that the inspection was performed at the designated area.

4. RFID Checkpoints for Irrigation Locations

RFID checkpoint tags can be installed at designated irrigation points. When staff arrive at a specific point, they use the WM-5000ZG to scan the corresponding tag. The system records the checkpoint, inspection time, staff identity, and location information. This provides a clear digital record showing whether the required irrigation point was actually visited.

5. Event Wallet for Equipment Fault Recording

For the requirement to record faults on irrigation combustion engines, JWM provided an Event Wallet solution.
Different event tags can be configured for different equipment faults, such as:

  • Engine overheating
  • Low oil pressure
  • Fuel system fault
  • Battery fault
  • Pump fault
  • Other equipment abnormalities

When staff inspect an irrigation engine, they first scan the equipment/location tag and then scan the corresponding fault event tag from the Event Wallet. The system records the relationship between the specific machine and the reported fault. Example:

Irrigation Engine No. 05 → Low Oil Pressure → Reported by Staff A → 10:25 AM

These records can then be viewed and analyzed through the software reports.

6. Centralized Software Management

All inspection records are transmitted to the software platform, allowing management to centrally review:

  • Staff inspection records
  • Checkpoint visit records
  • Inspection time
  • GPS location
  • Staff identity
  • Equipment fault records
  • Abnormal inspection events
  • Historical inspection data

This gives the sugar mill a clear overview of field inspection activities and equipment conditions.

Results

Real-Time Visibility

With 4G real-time data transmission, managers can monitor inspection activities remotely and receive inspection records without waiting for manual data collection.

Reliable Attendance Verification

The combination of RFID checkpoints + fingerprint verification + GPS positioning provides multiple layers of verification, making inspection records more reliable and traceable.

Improved Equipment Fault Management

The Event Wallet allows staff to quickly record specific faults associated with individual irrigation engines. Management can then identify recurring equipment problems and arrange maintenance accordingly.

Reduced Manual Supervision

Instead of relying on paper records or telephone reports, inspection information is automatically collected and uploaded to the software, reducing administrative workload.

Better Management of Large Irrigated Areas

GPS positioning and real-time communication are particularly valuable for large agricultural sites where irrigation points may be widely distributed and difficult for supervisors to monitor directly.

Complete Digital Inspection Records

The system creates a digital history of field inspections, including who performed the inspection, where it was performed, when it was performed, and whether any equipment fault was identified.
